Description

The former St. Matthews Church was built in the 'Transitional' style in the 1870s, for the Church of England. It was built from local 'Cambridge Buff' bricks with decorative red brick detail, and York stone central arch and truss supports. It features parapet walls, slated roof, leaded glass windows, and exposed oak beam rafters. It is laid out in a classic 'cross', and typically faces East. It sits in the middle of its grounds, and benefits from the complete absence of graves - almost unheard of for a rural Anglican church.

Local wildlife includes deer, rabbits, hares, pheasants, barn owls, little owls, crows, wrens, and many other birds.

The Old Church House is located in East Cambridgeshire, in the East of England (East Anglia). Although a rural church on a quiet road, it is very close to the A10, with direct access to the M11 motorway (between Cambridge and London). The town centre is only 1.5 miles away, and has a rail line directly into London's King's Cross, via Cambridge, and to King's Lynn. The city of Ely is 4.5 miles away, Cambridge is 17 miles away, and Central London is 65 miles away. Its location and access to major cities makes it an ideal country retreat yet with convenient commuter routes.

The church has 2,275 ft² (211m²) of internal floor space, and is laid out in an open-plan living arrangement. The living area, dining area, and kitchen area are separated by a single step. The living area incoroprates a study/office area, which can easily become a 4th bedroom. The master bedroom with en suite bathroom is on the mezzanine gallery, and 2 further bedrooms are on the ground floor. There is also an additional bathroom with steam shower, washbasin and WC.
